Structural engineering works best when it starts early. By the time a contractor is pricing a job, the decisions that shape cost, programme and buildability have usually already been made, often without an engineer in the room.

Where possible, we get involved at the point where those decisions are still open. This means understanding what a project actually needs to stack up: budget constraints, return on investment, how the frame will be built and by whom. The engineering we produce reflects that. It’s designed to be priced, tendered and constructed without structural thinking becoming a source of delay or rework.

That said, projects don’t always work that way. We’re also regularly brought in at later stages – to pick up a scheme mid-design, resolve a structural problem, or deliver to a tight deadline someone else created. We’re comfortable with that. The standard of the work doesn’t change based on when we arrive.

We respond quickly because structural design sits on the critical path for most projects. Architects, developers and contractors shouldn’t have to chase us for information. They shouldn’t have to interpret our drawings. And a project should never slow down because of us.
The same approach applies whether we’re helping a homeowner extend their kitchen or an investor deliver a multi-storey scheme. Honest advice, given early, tends to save money.
