New build housing developments

We offer full engineering coverage from feasibility to construction

The structural decisions made at feasibility stage have a direct impact on layout, cost and how straightforward a scheme is to build. Getting an engineer involved early – before those decisions are fixed – tends to save money and avoid the kind of rework that comes from resolving structural problems after planning.

SCB Structures works with developers, architects and main contractors on new build residential schemes across Essex, London, Kent, Surrey and Hertfordshire. From single dwellings to multi-plot developments, we provide full structural engineering coverage from feasibility through to construction.

What we do

We cover foundation strategy and site-specific feasibility advice, superstructure design in masonry, steel, timber and hybrid construction, general arrangement drawings and structural layouts, load assessments, detailed connection drawings and specifications, technical input at planning stage, and ongoing design support during construction including RFI responses.

Early foundation feasibility matters most on sites near trees, in clay soil, or with split levels. Structural input at that stage helps developers and architects understand how layout decisions will affect foundation complexity and cost before those choices become difficult to reverse.

Early-stage foundation feasibility

We actively encourage early engagement, especially for foundation strategies and particularly on sites near trees, in clay soil, or with split levels. Early structural input helps inform planners and clients of how layout and decisions and foundations will influence structural cost, buildability, and complexity before those decisions become expensive to change.

Drawings that keep sites moving

Poorly coordinated drawings are one of the most common causes of programme delay. We put considerable effort into making our details unambiguous – using annotated drawings, 3D AutoCAD details and colour-enhanced junctions at key points. Contractors can build from them without having to query the intent, which means fewer RFIs and less likelihood of errors or unexpected costs during construction.

Bespoke homes

Alongside larger developments, we work with private clients and architects on individually designed new homes. The structural challenge on a bespoke project is usually balancing architectural ambition against what the budget can realistically support – we’re experienced at finding that balance without compromising either the design or the build.

We have a growing portfolio of one-off homes delivered this way, and it’s work we take seriously regardless of scale.
